What is Ginkgo Biloba?

Ginkgo biloba originates from Southeast Asia. The plant is around 240 million years old. Due to its healing properties it has been actively used in traditional Asian medicine for a few centuries.

Flavone glycosides and terpene lactones are the most valuable components of ginkgo biloba leaves. Dried high-quality leaves which have preserved beneficial substances and efficiency are used for its production.

Benefits of Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba is beneficial for the human body and contributes to:

  • improvement of memory and attention;
  • activation of thinking processes;
  • slowing down of brain ageing;
  • improvement of blood, oxygen, and nutrients supply to the brain;
  • normalising the cholesterol level.

Improved blood flow is beneficial not only for the brain but other organs, too, since it provides them with oxygen and nutrients.

Uses of Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba is recommended to be taken during or after meals, swallowed whole and with a glass of water. Directions for use depend on the dietary supplement dose and differ for each specific case.

Ginkgo Biloba side effects and overdose

Since ginkgo biloba improves blood circulation, it should be taken with caution by those who are scheduled for an operation. It is not recommended to take ginkgo biloba 2 weeks before and after the operation.

Gingko biloba overdose and its uncontrolled use might lead to side effects on the digestive tract (such as digestive disorders, vomiting, and nausea), immune system (hypersensitivity, shortness of breath), nervous system (dizziness, headache), skin (rash, itchiness, swelling, inflammation). Thus, the doses indicated in the directions for use should not be exceeded.
